EngenderHealth has launched a campaign to mobilize American support for global reproductive health. President Obama and the new Congress have the power to change U.S. policies, boost funding for reproductive health programs, and improve the health and lives of millions of people around the world.

We have identified the top five actions for our new leaders:

1. Overturn the Global Gag Rule
2. Commit $1 billion for international family planning programs
3. Support smart HIV prevention programs
4. Invest in maternal health
5. Support the reproductive health of young people

The impact of these measures should not be underestimated: If the United States carries them out, we will save lives, build sustainable health systems in developing countries, make significant progress toward achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, and restore our reputation overseas.

EngenderHealth will be issuing calls to action around each of the top five actions throughout 2009.
